VéloZef, the self-service electrically assisted bicycle

Presentation of the service

VéloZef is the name of the self-service electric bicycle offer of Brest métropole. VéloZef completes the Bibus transport offer and allows the inhabitants of the metropolis to benefit from a 100% electric bicycle rental service, adapted to short distance or short duration trips.

The Vélozef service, which will be launched in June 2021 as an experiment, has been completely renewed and redesigned this spring. It is operated by the service provider Fifteen and now offers :

185 efficient Fifteen bicycles (with a range of up to 65 km), easy to handle, light and simple to use;
29 stations spread across the city, in Brest, Plouzané and Le Relecq-Kerhuon, allowing a dense and evolving network of the territory where the service is available.
The bikes are connected to each other and to a single charging station via electromagnets that allow energy to be transferred

How to rent a bike ?

1) Sign up
  • Download the VéloZef application on Google Play or App Store, create your account and fill your payment card.

  • If you have a KorriGo card, you can link it to ypur VéloZef account. To do this, you need to be near a bike, go to "My transport card" tab in the application menu and click on "Add a card" and then on "Link via bike".

2) Start hiring

Go to one of the VéloZef stations. There are three ways to unlock your bike:

  1. Scan the bike's QR code : go to the VéloZef application and click on the "Scan" button, which opens your camera.

  2. Enter the number of the rented bike manually : go to the VéloZef application, click on the "Scan" button, choose the "Manual" tab, then enter the bike number in the field provided.

  3. Use your KorriGo card previously registered in your account : press the left brake on the bike, then place your KorriGo card on the logo on the frame. Once you've done this, the bike will beep twice and all you have to do is press the left brake and pull it towards you to unhook the bike.

3) During the journey

GPS functionality is available, so you can enter your destination address. A counter is also displayed to show the duration of the journey, the kilometres travelled, the speed and the bike's battery level.

4) End of hire

All you have to do is hook the bike to the terminal or to the last bike present, using the two magnets on the right-hand side of the bike. The bike will emit a double beep, indicating that it is locked. The journey ends automatically. If you are not at the station, click on "Finish" at the bottom right of the screen. The application will show you the way to the nearest station.

Carte des stations VéloZef

The 185 bikes will be parked at one of the 29 stations spread across the region: 23 in Brest, 3 in Le Relecq-Kerhuon and 3 in Plouzané. Each station can accommodate a maximum of 10 bikes. It takes around 2h30 for a bike to recharge at a station.

The bikes are connected to each other and to a single recharging station via electromagnets that transfer energy. This new service enables maintenance providers to monitor bikes more effectively, limiting the number of bike drop-off and pick-up zones, and optimizing bike availability.
