How does it work?

Vélocibus is an electric bike hire service, to enjoy the pleasures of the town at your own pace.

With an electric bike, the hills in and around Brest will no longer be an issue ! Come and take advantage of this mode of transport that is eco-friendly, cost-efficient and also good for your health.

To make it as easy as possible for you to hire a bike, we have set up a booking platform that just takes a few clicks :

The different models

City bike 

This is the Arcade E-cardan electric bike, with 5 different electric assistance modes and 7 mechanical gears. The battery on this bike will cover up to 75 km. This E-cardan bike is completely silent and has no chain so there’s no risk your chain will come off. The E-cardan is designed and assembled in France, in La Roche-sur-Yon. It is perfectly suited to intense urban use, when you have to stop frequently.

Folding bike 

This City 4 Eovolt folding electric bike is lightweight and ultra-compact. It can be folded easily in just a few seconds. This bike is ideal for city-dwellers with limited space to store their bike in their apartment or at the office. The Eovolt bike is small and discreet, and once folded can easily be taken on public transport.

Two-wheeled cargo bike

This cargo bike from Douze Cycles is a great alternative to using a car. The powerful electric assistance will help you whiz around the hills of Brest no matter how heavy your cargo. To park on the pavement or when turning around, this cargo bike is just as easy to manoeuvre as a standard bike. There is a built-in step so that children can get in and out on their own.

Three-wheeled cargo bike 

This cargo bike from Douze Cycles is a great alternative to using a car. The powerful electric assistance will help you whiz around the hills of Brest no matter how heavy your cargo. To park on the pavement or when turning around, this cargo bike is just as easy to manoeuvre as a standard bike. There is a built-in step so that children can get in and out on their own.

Longtail cargo bike 

The Douze LT1 is a lightweight cargo bike, capable of anything. During the week, you can take your children to school and then get to work in a flash or do your food shopping. At the weekend, it’s great for family outings, to explore the area! With its reinforced structure, it can be ridden just like a standard electric bike. Its long rear rack can accommodate all children, from the youngest to the oldest and even an adult. The front basket means you’ll always have your belongings at hand. Everything is thought out for your safety and that of your passengers.

Cargo bike tricycle

The Pfautec Combo tricycle is a robust and reliable electrically assisted bicycle with a Bosch motor with digital display and a 14 Ah-36 V Lithium Li-ion battery. It has 4 assistance levels for an average range of 60 km and is also equipped with a start-up assistance (maximum 6 km/h), the Shimano Nexus 7 system for shifting gears at a standstill and avoiding derailments, a parking brake as well as a back-pedalling braking system at the rear for better grip.

Pratical information

  • At the end of the hire period, you return the bike by making an appointment with the Vélocibus workshop on 06 82 26 90 54. The workshop is located on the premises of the Don Bosco association at 1 rue Louis Pidoux in Brest and is open Monday to Thursday from 9am to 12pm and from 1.30pm to 5pm as well as Friday and Saturday from 9am to 12.30pm and from 1.30pm to 4pm).

  • To finalise the reservation of your bike, you must :

  1. Pay a guarantee deposit (cashed on booking). The amount payable varies according to the model of bike hired.

  2. Enter your bank details to confirm the amount of the security deposit (not cashed at the time of booking). The amount payable varies according to the model of bike hired.

  • For peace of mind, don't forget to take out additional insurance before collecting your bike. As indicated in the general terms and conditions of hire, charges will apply in the event of loss, theft or damage to hired equipment. We therefore recommend that you contact the insurer of your choice to cover any claims incurred during the rental period. If you wish, you can take out cover with our partner insurer "Tulip". In this case, once you have paid for your rental online, you can take out "Tulip" insurance by following the link on the booking confirmation page.

  • Hire is possible from the age of 16 and is reserved for residents of Brest Métropole.

  • For employees, the Vélocibus subscription can be reimbursed up to 50% by your employer (75% for civil servants). This compulsory reimbursement of the cost of a subscription to a public bicycle hire service can be combined with any sustainable mobility package set up by your company. Rental prices

If you have a monthly or annual subscription to Bibus public transport, you benefit from a preferential rate for the duration of your subscription. If you stop your subscription, you will have to pay the Vélocibus rental rate applied to non-subscribers.

If your family income is less than or equal to €813, if you are under 26 or if you are a student, you can benefit from a reduced rate on presentation of proof :

  • Or proof of entitlement to the solidarity fare, which can be obtained from the town hall or the CCAS of your district/commune of Brest métropole, on presentation of a certificate of family income (less than or equal to €813).

  • Either an identity card and/or a student card.
